Are You Ready for the New Companies House ID Rules?

Are You Ready for the New Companies House ID Rules?

A major change is coming for UK company directors, and we want to ensure you're fully prepared. As part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (ECCTA), Companies House is introducing mandatory identity verification to enhance security and crack down on fraud.

This is a positive step towards greater trust in UK business, but it means there's a new administrative step you need to be aware of. Here’s what it means for you.

A Simple Timeline: Who Needs to Verify and When?

The new rules are being rolled out in phases. It's crucial to know which deadline applies to you:

  • From 18 November 2025: Anyone registering a new company must verify their identity. This applies to all new company directors and Persons of Significant Control (PSCs).

  • Existing Directors & PSCs: You have a 12-month grace period starting from November 2025. You'll likely be prompted to verify when you file your next confirmation statement.

  • By Spring 2026: Anyone who files documents on behalf of a company (a "document presenter") will also need to be verified.

  • End of 2026: The transition period ends. Anyone who hasn't verified their identity by this point may face penalties.

Missing these deadlines could lead to serious consequences, including fines, prosecution, or delays in registering your company.

How to Verify Your Identity: Let Us Make it Easy

You have a few options to complete the verification, but some are easier than others. The good news is that you only need to do this once.

  1. The DIY Online Method: You can handle the verification yourself through a GOV.UK One Login account. You will need to scan and upload a valid photo ID, such as a passport or UK driving licence.

  2. The Hassle-Free Route (Through Zyla): As your accountants and an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), we can manage this entire process for you. This is the most efficient option for busy directors who want peace of mind that everything is handled correctly and on time, without disrupting their focus on the business.

  3. In-Person at the Post Office: If you don't have a suitable photo ID, you can complete the process in person at a participating Post Office branch.

Don't Wait – Get Verified Today!

While the deadline for existing directors may seem far away, we strongly recommend getting ahead of it. Verifying your identity now is a simple step that will prevent any future compliance headaches or delays.

The team at Zyla Accountants is here to guide you through the changes and handle the verification on your behalf. Contact us today to get compliant and tick this important task off your list.
